Easily accessible via I81, one mile from Exit 150B close to shopping and restaurants. This 1940 farm house has been fully restored with all modern conveniences and outfitted with fine furniture. The Appalachian Trail is just a short walk from the cottage where a spectacular high meadow awaits with panoramic mountain views. The farm is enclosed by actively managed forestry sporting much wildlife including hives of honeybees. The orchard entails many heritage apple and pear trees. The Black Twig Garden is a ¼ acre enclosed organic working square foot garden for growing a variety of vegetables, berries, flowers, and home to our pet farm chickens. Single night stays accepted Sunday thru Thursday only. A unique opportunity to stay on a working Virginia Certified Thoroughbred horse farm where we breed, raise, and race Thoroughbreds. The newly renovated barn loft hosts unbelievable views of the mountains and our horses out of it's large picture window. Peace and serenity are limitless here on our farm. The farm is less than 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. 15 minutes to downtown Roanoke. 30 minutes to Smith Mt Lake. 45 minutes to Blacksburg or Lynchburg. 7 miles from exit 150 on I81. The loft space was created so our adult children would have ample space and privacy when they visited us. It has a small refrigerator as well as a wine cooler. A microwave, toaster and a hot plate with two burners. Pots and dishes. A beautiful farm sink and of course a coffee maker that brews a carafe or a single cup. A desk for writing or computer work. A large sitting area and a 70 inch TV. Wifi access, but due to our location and barn structure it is unreliable. It also houses my art studio. I only work in the studio periodically and certainly not when we have guests. The loft space turned out so very nice that we decide to share it. We hope you experience the same peace and serenity we do here on our farm. Truly a beautiful part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Not a day goes by that we don't count our blessings! This is a working farm and you have a bird's eye view from the loft. You will undoubtedly see the day to day chores, and hear tractor and horse noises. Due to the structure and location of the loft WiFi is unreliable. The 70 inch TV host over 200 pre-loaded movies of all varieties, but no cable or internet. Peace and serenity are limitless!

Come enjoy a stay in a 1783 log house constructed by one of the founding fathers of Botetourt County VA! My husband and I have beautifully restored and modernized (to a point!) this log structure that was scheduled to be sold and moved out of the state. I went to see the old house in 1993 and immediately fell in love, and went on to convince my builder husband that we had to keep it because it was an important part of the county history, and we had already lost many of our old structures to other areas. We moved every log, brick, stone and didn't change anything about the cabin's structure except to get plumbing and electric into the space without cutting through any logs. The old windows still have bubbles in them, and we saved all four fireplaces using the original bricks and stone. The house sits only 3 miles from it's original site and on the same road with a creek running behind it. The cabin was used as a tea room for over a decade, and we have converted it into a comfortable and rustic rental. The cabin has two gas fireplaces on the main level - perfect for cold weather and cozying up by the fire! Two very large bedrooms occupy the upstairs, both with queen size beds, as well as a queen air mattress if needed. Downstairs has a spacious eating area/game room with a gas fireplace. Off this room is a kitchen equipped with all you need to prepare meals including dishware, cookware, basic seasonings - I can purchase additional items prior to your visit for additional cost so everything you might need can be there when you arrive. The full bath is on this floor, as is another large room in the back of the cabin for gathering by the very large stone gas fireplace. There is a full size futon in this room which is wheelchair accessible. There is a lot of parking out front - and a handicap ramp leading up the side of the cabin. The location is super convenient to the area wineries, many brew pubs, several put ins on the James River, the Appalachian Trail, and several local wedding venues (The Kyle House in Fincastle, Triple J Farm in Catawba, and several in Buchanan). We are a doable distance to VA Tech, and VMI and W & L, and have had guests stay here with those destinations in mind. Those doing business at Eldor, Altec or Ballast Point will find them just 3 miles away in the Greenfield Educational Center.Those coming to do geneology research in Fincastle would find this a convenient location as well. Roanoke is about a 20 minute drive, Clifton Forge is 30 minutes, and Lexington VA is about 45. We have a great central location from which to enjoy so many activities the area has to offer! Located on 220N, the cabin is just a few minutes from several eateries so if you don’t want to cook during your stay, there’s no need to. Route 220 is a major thoroughfare so can be noisy at times. That said, the logs dampen much of the traffic noise and we are installing interior storm windows for acoustics which will dramatically decrease any residual noise. The Cloyd House has a handicap ramp, first floor sleeping accommodations and bathroom with handicap bars. Wide doors allow wheelchair access. Please contact me for more info if necessary. No pets allowed in cabin. *PLEASE NOTE: This is an old cabin in a rural setting. We sometimes get box elder beetles (which are completely harmless) at certain times of the year, though we do have the cabin treated. Refunds due to bugs will not be given, so please be aware of this. We can be as available as you need us to be, and want to help make your stay an enjoyable one. We have a book available to guests with places to see and places to eat, and we are happy to share our favorite kayaking put in points and places to hike on the Appalachian Trail. We are a good central point for visiting Roanoke, Clifton Forge, and Lexington. Many places to bike and hike so bring your backpack! I am happy to stock the kitchen prior to your arrival with things you might want to have while here (additional cost), so please let me know. The bedrooms also have an air purifier for quality air and noise reduction. There are plenty of blankets, pillows, and extra supplies for guests to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Outside Space:  The front porch has great seating for guests to enjoy a cup of coffee and good conversation overlooking the beautiful mountain scenery. The side yard, accessible from the laundry area, is fenced in for a private, unwinding retreat.  There is ample space for parking for cars, trucks, trailers, etc. The carport offers covered parking space as well.  Guests have access to the entire 2-acre yard. Adjacent to the house is a fenced-in area with a wooden fence for privacy from the main road.

The main floor of Woodsdale features a large living room and two small parlors each with a sleeper sofa. A half bath is off the large kitchen area. Covered porches are a perfect place for a cup of coffee, a good book or listening to the sounds of nature. Upstairs there are two full bathrooms and a half bath. Two large bedrooms offer a king bed and a queen bed. A third smaller bedroom can serve as a nursery or dressing room. The third floor has 4 twin beds and is a cozy attic room for friends or children. Woodsdale is also available as a wedding and special events venue. Parties, events or gatherings are not permitted otherwise.

You have the entire apartment with access to coin operated laundry. The apartment is approximately 400 square feet and includes a queen bed, small desk, dinette, pullout sofa, television, fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and hot plate. We are located close to the Virginia Triple Crown trails (McAfee Knob, Dragon's Tooth, Tinker Cliffs) as well as other local trails. The Blue Ridge Soaring Society airfield is 2 miles away. We are also listed on AirBnB.

How about convenience? Less than 30 miles to Virginia Tech, 2 miles to Roanoke College and Hollins College at 11 miles. This property is a two bedroom and 1000 square feet.
